Get to now more about Montmartre neighborhood strolling its streets with your private english speaking guide . The name of Montmartre came from a hill from Roman times (Mount Mars). In the medieval ages, most of Montmartre was an abbey later destroyed during the French Revolution. For many years, this area was a district in the outskirts of Paris until the impressionists artists while the district gained reputation for its cabarets and cafés. Artists like Van Gogh and Picasso lived here. By the way at that time Montmartre counted dozens of windmills that played an important role during the 18 and 19 centuries!

Learn the story behind the iconic Moulin Rouge cabaret theater, where Toulouse-Lautrec drew many portraits of the legendary nightclub’s regulars. You can also visit the Cafe des 2 Moulins, featured in the popular movie Amelie. Continue uphill and discover what made Vincent Van Gogh, Toulouse Lautrec, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali all want to call this eclectic district home. The tour covers all the major sites that make it famous, including the bohemian Artists' Square, PLace du Tertre, and the nice surrounding cafés.
