Continue to the old city center of Lyon, a maze of narrow streets and the Renaissance historic buildings Among the 'musts' in this part of Lyon, in addition to the cafés and restaurants, are the "traboules", narrow Renaissance alleyways mostly running perpendicular to the river. Also in the old city is the gothic 12th C Saint Jean Cathedral where Henri IV and Marie de Medicis got married in 1600.
Cross the splendid Place des Terreaux and don't miss the painted murals in trompe l'oeil, and you will have the chance to visit the majestic "Fresque des Lyonnais" and La Croix Rousse, The "Canuts" or silk-workers used to live in the Croix-Rousse. The "traboules" were very important for them. You will see just why!
Just after the city highlights tour continue to the Halles de Lyon - Paul Bocuse, one of the reasons that Lyon is known as France’s capital of gastronomy.
