If you want to discover a charming part of the Mediterranean Sea, then this shore excursion of Cassis and Marseille is for you! Start off visiting the vibrant city of Marseille, the most “Mediterranean”, multicultural and dynamic city in France.
The beating heart of this 26 century-old city is the emblematic old port. You will have the chance to discover landmarks such as the Center of la Vieille Charité, the Basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde with superb white Carrare marbles and red marbles from Brignoles that decorate together the Byzantine style mosaics, and The Palais Longchamp which is a neo-classical ode to water and its arrival in the Marseille metropolis through the Canal of la Durance. Drive to the district of Panier, the oldest area of Marseille, a village inside the city.
Continue your shore excursion to Cassis, a charming village by the sea, snuggled at the foot of the tall Cap Canaille cliff and the white limestone coves. Frédéric Mistral, the nobel prize winning poet from the South of France said: "Qui a vu Paris et non Cassis n'a rien vu" (He who has seen Paris and not Cassis has seen nothing). Discover the village and its surroundings through a scenic route taking you through colorful creeks of the seaside at about 400 meters high. Its picturesque fishing port is embellished by nice shops, cafes and restaurants. It is also the departure point for your boat trip to the world famous Calanques and their breathtaking cliffs (Port Pin, Port Miou, En-Vau).
Return to your ship or stay for lunch in Cassis (See our recommendations below).
