Discover Rouen a medieval and trendy city stretching beside the Seine. It is Normandy’s cultured, historic, gastronomic, vibrant capital.

Start your day with a drive from Deauville to the capital of Haute-Normandie, a city that is certainly very interesting from all the angles, art, architecture, history and gastronomy. Discover Rouen, visit the historic old town and its narrow streets which are genuinely delightful lined with old half-timbered houses from the 15C to the 18C.

Most of the top tourist attractions in Rouen lie within the city's pedestrian zone, a charming area of winding medieval lanes and picturesque half-timbered houses. Highlights include the magnificent cathedral, the renowned Fine Arts Museum, and the remarkable Gros-Horloge clock tower. In Rouen, visitors can retrace the steps of Joan of Arc to see where she went to trial and where she was martyred. Tourists can also witness the destruction suffered during the Second World War. The exquisite facade of the Palais de Justice still has evidence of shell holes from Allied bombings.

Rouen has also more than 50 religious buildings, and many of the churches are gems of Gothic architecture some of which include two Gothic masterpieces: the church of St-Maclou and the church of Saint Ouen, without forgetting the haunting Aître St-Maclou, one of the last examples of a medieval plague cemetery. Also, if you are fond of gardens you can also visit the Jardin des Plantes and for ceramics lovers, there is an exquisite Ceramics Museum with a collection of fine ceramic pieces.
