After Avignon, reach Isle Sur Sorgue , a former fishing village where old paddle wheels still turn famous for its antique shops. It has forged a strong image today among lovers of Art and ancient objects. Over 300 permanent antique dealers and second-hand dealers are open there all year round, making the city one of the most important European places of antiquity. Then continue to Fontaine de Vaucluse, a sun-filled village famous for its mysterious Sorgue River that flows out of the depths, its spring is one of the largest in the world!
After a nice lunch overviewing the river banks, drive through the heart of the Luberon and discover three of the most beautiful villages: Gordes, a hilltop village considered the most famous and beautiful with its white stone houses and cobblestone narrow streets. Then continue to Menerbes, a perched village surrounded by vast wine fields, very attractive with an authentic feel, with medieval and renaissance style churches and houses and a castle dominating the village. Lastly, if times allows, end your tour in Lacoste, an open-air museum mixing Middle Age and Renaissance styles crowned by the 11th century Marquis de Sade’s château.
