ITINERARY

Discover the cultural capital of  Provence, the city of 'Cézanne', greatly inspired by the countryside for his masterpiece paintings. The boulevards with alleys of enormous plane trees, the rich private mansions, the charming fountains and hidden squares and the lively café terraces make of Aix en Provence a must in the South of France !

Begin your itinerary meeting your private English speaking guide who will take you to discover the Baroque city, where Cézanne was born, lived and died. Take your time to walk around the Fountain of La Rotonde. This imposing fountain, from the mid 19th century,  is surrounded by different animals, has at the top if it, three female figures representing Justice, Agriculture and the Fine Arts. Follow the locals and stroll along the Cours Mirabeau, cadenced by the many cafes, bistros and restaurants with its nice terraces... Next, enter the old city by the narrow streets and reach the Mazarin Quarter, one of the most beautiful and elegant parts of the city, with a large number of hôtels particuliers originally built for the nobility and wealthy merchant class.

Continue your walking tour of Aix en Provence to the beautiful cathedral of St. Sauveur.  A building that conglomerates a range of architectural types including Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque. Then, join the heart of the city to see the 16th century  Clock Tower  and the city hall (Hotel de Ville) which is one of the community's most famous landmarks.  Its facade was built in the 17th century and incorporates an Italian style of architecture. The “little Paris” of Provence deserves its reputation as one of the most beautiful cities in France!
